The PP Trees are both an expression of the capabilities of the material from which they are made - polypropylene pipe - and also an examination of attitudes towards plastics and our perception of beauty. The trees are not intended to be accurate representations of natural forms but instead attempt to evoke an atmosphere similar to what one might experience standing amid a cluster of cherry trees in full bloom. Though made entirely from re-appropriated polypropylene pipes and cable ties, the delicate play of light and gracefulness of the formed tubes reveals something of the natural and otherwise hidden beauty of the materials, encouraging us to look beyond their intended application and appreciate the poetic potential of the banal.
