MANIERA invites architects and artists inspired by the spatial environment to design limited-edition furniture. Due to its designers’ architectural way of thinking, characterized by a clear awareness of space, MANIERA furniture is truly architectonic. The architecture-driven design pieces take their place without having to enter into any architectonic negotiations.
MANIERA functions as a laboratory where architects and artists transcend their own medium. The interface between the visual arts, architecture and design is of vital importance in this context. Above all, MANIERA wants to bring a young, up-and-coming generation of architects and artists to the fore, but also to show established and renowned figures in a new way. The most important elements in this are an idiosyncratic language and a conceptual mode of thought.
The MANIERA installation focuses on the work of Indian architectural practice Studio Mumbai, founded by Bijoy Jain who has developed a body of work that continues to reference aspects of both Indian and Western cultures. What sets the studio apart is a brilliant combination of tradition and modernity. Local resources and Indian craftsmanship form the basis for highly contemporary architectural designs, thoughtful and uncompromising to the last detail.
